    Cord Blood Utilization

Increase utilization of readily available, high quality, publicly banked cord blood units

The National Cord Blood Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing curative cord blood transplants (CBT) across the U.S for the treatment of blood or bone marrow cancers and other bone marrow diseases, as well as utilizing cord blood for cell therapies. By partnering with Transplant Centers, patient advocacy groups, national entities and cord blood banks, we aim to improve patient access to curative CBT.

    Increase CBT Access and Activity

Increase CBT activity by creating collaborations, optimizing practices, and supporting Transplant Centers.

Build Momentum by fostering collaborations and patient advocacy

Conduct research to evaluate patient outcomes, foster collaborations, and facilitate adoption across the field.

    Drive Innovation and Research

Leverage the public Cord Blood Inventory to cure disease.

    Utilize Existing Inventory

Maximize the use of readily available, banked cord blood units to benefit more patients.

    Transplant Center Collaborations

Optimizing Clinical Practice & Advancing the CBT Field
The Network will work to increase CBT activity by optimizing CB transplant practices across the U.S. It will collaborate with Centers in the implementation of the necessary infrastructure and train staff to perform these life-saving transplants. Additionally, the Network will foster transplant center collaborations to promote novel clinical and correlative laboratory research to spearhead advances in the field.

    Patients

Address A Critical Unmet Healthcare Need
CBT can be a highly effective curative treatment for patients with acute leukemia and other diseases of the bone marrow. NCBN collaborates with patient advocacy groups to empower patients with knowledge about CBT and features transplant recipient journeys to elevate and amplify their voices.

"Nine years ago, I was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a form of blood cancer. I was told I would have 18-24 months [to live] without treatment . . . I knew that particularly as having a mixed race ancestry. . . it was going to be really hard to find a match." After making the decision to receive a cord blood transplant, "on day 17, I began engrafting and was in the hospital for 30 days and then you do the 100 days of intense treatment and supportive care after that." "My daughter just graduated from high school and I was able to see her walk across that stage - something I worried about not attending at the time of my diagnosis. I am so thankful just for time, time to live".
